Execution Trace

Enigmail incorporates a verbose trace feature for debugging. If you report a bug, it would be very helpful if you could append the trace output to the bug report.

Tracing in Enigmail up to v1.7.2

  • Open the Enigmail Preferences panel (OpenPGP->Preferences)

  • Activate the checkbox Display Expert Options

  • Click on the Debugging tab to access the debugging preferences.

  • In the text box labelled Log Directory, type in any valid directory path, e.g., /data/tmp (Unix) or c:\windows\temp (Windows).

A file named enigdbug.txt will be created in this directory containing the trace log. This is the file in which we are interested.

Tracing in Enigmail 1.8 and later

  • Open the Enigmail Preferences panel (OpenPGP->Preferences)

  • Activate the checkbox Display Expert Options and close the dialog

  • Open the menu Enigmail > Debugging Options > View Log.

  • Click the Save Log to File ... button to save the log.
